Don’t be afraid to ask for custom. It pays!

I was contacted by ckresale about my complete set listing. She needed several graphics done for both her etsy and ebay shops. I never turn down an offer to make graphics as long as I feel comfortable that I will be able to complete the project correctly. ckresale needed the following things:

  • business card design
  • 760×100 etsy banner
  • 75×75 etsy avatar
  • 310×90 ebay logo
  • 150×150 ebay logo
  • .pdf label 3×3.75

She wanted something very simple, and something that matched her current notebook paper website design at http://www.ckresale.com. I quoted her $45 and this is what she got: (still working on the label)

760×100 pixels Etsy Shop banner

310×90 pixels Ebay Store Logo

75×75 pixels Etsy Avatar

150×150 pixels graphic for ebay

The Mad Hatter, Farmville VA

Russell and Doug, The Mad Hatter, Open Mic Night.

This place, in my opinion, should be packed every night and every day. I’m a huge fan. Russell and I are not from this area and have always yearned for a place to hang out, drink good brew (coffee or beer), enjoy good music, and revel in a comfortable ambiance.
I believe it was early fall when we noticed the big cinder block building behind Macado’s had gone from all white to half green. We then noticed a big sign saying The Mad Hatter was coming soon. When we finished our lunch at Macado’s I remember we investigated the sign further and were delighted to read the words “coffee, music, art” That’s all we needed to know.

Once they finally opened their doors we were thrilled with what we heard about the place. Although it took us a little while to get in there, we were both happy with what we experienced.

From MadHatterCoffee.net:

“The Mad Hatter is a coffee shop, light fare restaurant, and music and art venue located in the small but growing college town of Farmville, Virginia. We strive to be a place of community, linking the people of our town together by providing a place where they can relax, be with friends, and enjoy fine music and art that stir their senses.

Anyone can make a cup of coffee. We want to build a community.”

Karleigh singing. Mad Hatter Open Mic Night.

Karleigh, like Russell, is a singer/song writer. Her style is amazing and her voice just draws you in. Her lyrics are stunning and chilling. Her personal life has influenced her greatly and it shows in her music. I am so proud of her.

Sniffer completely cheesin’ over her Wes’ Famous –cheddar/jack blend grilled cheese with parmesean encrusted sourdough – which is by the way the ABSOLUTE BEST grilled cheese sandwich EVER to grace my palate!

Jennifer and Lanie (on the phone, in the background) came out to show their support to Russell and Karleigh Monday night.

Russell again. He’s such a natural at this.

I love hearing him play and sing and I love watching him. His facial expressions show so much passion for his music.

We plan to attend open mic night regularly. Monday nights 7 – 9pm at, where else – The Mad Hatter

We hope to see you there!

"Wolfman’s Got nards!" – The Monster Squad 20th Anniversary

I just found out this was actually on DVD. The two disc 20th anniversary edition leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Twenty years? Nothing like something from your childhood popping up 20 years later to make you feel old, right?

I absolutely loved this movie as a child. I thought I was 7 or 8 when I saw it, I guess I was more like 6. Well, maybe I was 7 or 8 when I saw it. I can’t wait to sit and watch it with my kids. Although, they have already seen it because my super duper ex-husband went and bought it after he excitedly told me it was for sale. What a booger head! That’s ok, we can still watch it together and I’ll be a total goof off while spouting out silly quotes.

I remember very vividly after watching The Monster Squad, walking to the store with my mom, and asking her what a virgin was. She immediately stumbled for words and said, “it’s a girl that’s never had a boyfriend”. Good job, mom! Though, for years I thought only girls could be virgins.

I remember having a crush on Sean, the leader of this “squad” for years. With some research I found that he is actually Andre Gower.

From About.com:

The tale unfolds as a squad of kids come upon a magic charm which is being sought by five monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the Mummy, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon). The monsters need the talisman because it will give them the power of immortality… but the kids aren’t so willing to part with their treasure.

Thanks to a fun but formulaic screenplay written by Shane Black and Fred Dekker (yes, “Black & Dekker”), Monster Squad is a movie aimed squarely at younger kids and those who are kids at heart, mixing elements of The Hardy Boys Mysteries, Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein, and The Goonies. It’s silly but harmless amusement, and you’re bound to enjoy a chuckles or two as the motley crew of monsters bumbles after the smart (and smart-alecky) kids.

Needless to say, I am WAY excited about watching this, um, 20 years later…

Thread Heads, Thread Banger video and Etsy

I am becoming very fond of a series of videos I originally found while searching for ways to make a purse from a shirt. The hosts, Rob and Corrinne, are both entertaining and super informative. I thought it was especially cool to see them working with etsy. You can check out all of their videos here.
Or go to http://www.ThreadBanger.com

For now, enjoy this video…

"I love it!", says Zoe

Well thank goodness she loves it! Zoe (3) got her first “real” haircut today. Before today she had only had her bangs cut and hair trimmed. She was starting to get really fussy about me keeping her hair up and always asked to keep it down. Problem there is a 3 yr old with long hair, wearing it down all day, turns into a rat’s nest and fast! It was getting to the point to where she would cry every time I even mentioned brushing her hair. My mom would call me lazy, but my baby girl was begging for a haircut. So, I decided to give it a go. I called her dad to get the okay. He was reluctant but I gave him my reasoning and he agreed. She needs something more manageable, for herself, and for me! Here is how it went…

Oh Dear Blog…

How I neglect you sometimes. Ever find it hard to find something to write about? I know I do. I ponder what people may want to read about. Surely my day to day activities are not that interesting. Or are they?

I’ve been working on my etsy shop. I have not made a single sale in days and it is really discouraging. I can’t seem to figure out why. Other banners makers are selling. Our prices are similar, and my designs are great. What’s the catch? I offer impeccable customer service, beautiful designs, low prices, what else? What am I missing?

I’m advertising. Maybe not as much as I could be. Gosh, it’s just so time consuming though. I have ads on Project Wonderful. I’m selling ad space here. I post in forums both on etsy and wahm.com. I have a Flickr account, a Talent Database Profile, and I have my MySpace Page. I do need to go post some ads on Craigslist. I’m just not so sure what else can be done to make the sales for the items I am offering.

I was featured in a blog yesterday and I was so excited to get some traffic to my shop. Guess what? Not a thing. My views did not increase, I got no additional “hearts”, no convos, no emails. I’m so sad about it.

I started this month out great, and on the 17th I made a goal to double what I had made in the first two weeks and thought for sure I would reach my goal. Not the case now.

On an upside, I have been sewing too. I’m not much of a seamstress, actually, I’m not a seamstress at all, so I will not be listing any of my sewing adventures on etsy any time soon. I’ve been making purses and bags. Let me tell you that I think my design is FANTASTIC! So creative and unique that I am afraid to even post a picture of it until I perfect it and start selling it. I will tell you that it involves vintage neckties and printed shirts from the dollar rack bought at my local Good Will. I wore my purse slung around my shoulder all week. Everyone I know just loves it. Though compliments from friends are great, sometimes they don’t hold as much value as those from complete strangers. I’m not ungrateful, but you do know what I mean. A friend may feel obligated, or they may just be being polite, or nice, or even encouraging. A stranger, however, doesn’t even know you MADE your item. They don’t know you from Eve! So when a stranger complimented my purse and I got to say, “Thank you! I made it!” and their reply was “Oh My God, I hate you! How in the world did you do that??” Yeah, guess who was on cloud nine, baby?? ME! Hehehehe, it was great!

A picture… what picture would you like to see today? How about goofy Russell wearing Sniffer’s coat. (Russell is my guy, and Sniffer aka Jennifer, is my BFF)

What a weirdo… 🙂
